It's a little small but I was testing the fine lines for the eyebrow hairs on the headcap. It's a hard balance to strike; if the paint is too thin, the lines won't show enough. Too thick or dark in color, and they look very "painted". You want to be able to get a fairly dark line, but also quite thin, and not completely opaque. |

Here is the head with eyebrows done and I've started on the lip color. For this faceup, I did a base color for the lips like I did on the eyebrows - a very thinned paint. You can also do a base layer with pastels; it depends on the color and look you want. |

Generally I'm using at least three different colors of pastels for a faceup. The bottom right color is for the cheeks; you want a nice warm, pink tone. The bottom left is for around the eyes and some further blushing around the headcap and ears; it has some of the cheek color in it, but it's more brown in tone and closer to the skin's color. The top color is for on the lips; Stellan has quite a pastel, pink look to his faceup. There is a pretty wide range of color you can select for lips. With both lips and the eye area, I DO often use some human makeup - powder eyeshadow. (Only use powder!) I use it on the lips to make subtle changes to the shade, and it works great on the eyelids for an added punch of color. I've used everything from chocolate brown to pale lavendar on eyelids. You can think of human makeup: foundation, blush, and lipstick. Though, in this case, the foundation doesn't cover all the skin; you just want it at the edges to give the head dimension. |

Faceup most of the way done. This is prior to any blushing. I didn't get a photo of the head after blushing but before glossing, sorry. >_o
At this stage, the steps will proceed like this: |

After all that's done, it's time to glue eyelashes back in. I have no good advice for this stage except that it involves Elmer's glue, tweezers, toothpicks, and a lot of swearing. ><; But this is basically what you want it to look like from inside the head; you don't need a whole lot of glue, just a line of it along the top of the lash. |

A photo of Stellan's finished faceup with his eyes in, wig on, and clothes so you can see the final result. ^^ Remember, give your faceup a chance. A lot of times, you may not like it at first just because it's different. Take photos and see how it looks through your camera, it may change your point of view! And if you're still not happy, don't despair: try again! You haven't "ruined" your doll; for worse and better, faceups are always a temporary thing. |
