Here's what you've got at this point - some kind of strange loincloth.

Hold the band in one hand and pull the strip with the other - you want to fold it in half and then cut along that line so the "loincloth" has a flap on the inside and the outside.

For the record, yes, you could have cut two 1 1/2" x 5" strips to start with. But, I like folding better than measuring. ^^;

Now you need to pinch your elastic band in half and position the two sections of the strip directly across from each other.

Make yourself another elastic sandwich, just like you did before. You're turning your loincloth into . . . a thong. (Okay using a sandwich analogy and an underwear analogy in the same step warrants an apology. I apologize.)

You may want to mark with your pencil again at this stage.

This is going to be a little bit harder to get it under the presser foot. Check to make sure things are lined up and you're not going to sttch over the other half of the elastic band before you sew.
And here is the result! A lovely . . . thong. But not just any thong - a HEADTHONG.
Akio: . . . I'm not even going to ask you why you've put what looks like underwear on my head but I expect you to pay for my therapy.
Here's a view from the top . . .

Akio: Oh, I get it . . . The wig fits me better now! . . . . . . I still don't like it, though.

. . . I don't think there's anything I can do about THAT. ^^;
